The League will anticipate the completion of the season to be the end of April to allow all Clubs from Officials to the Players a longer break next summer. Clwyd League taken to appeal

The North Wales Coast F.A. have appealed to the FAW against Clwyd League's decision to accept Conwy United Res. and Llanrwst United Res. into the league. (see AGM 2008).

The NWCFA will be holding their AGM at "Rose Tor" Upper Mostyn Street, Llandudno on Saturday 12th July at 3:30pm. As expected the NWCFA will attempt to reintroduce the New Rule 31.7, which was withdrawn at last years AGM at Halkyn, when a large number of clubs attended to vote against it. The rule will effectively put several clubs playing in the Clwyd League in an illegal position were they will be playing outside their boundaries, giving the NWCFA control over the area league's liaison committee, promotion and relegation within those league's, promotion and relegation from the directly affiliated league.

A written objection to the above rule will again be sent from the Clwyd League and all clubs will be urged to attend the AGM and vote against this proposal.

AGM 2008

The 34th Annual General Meeting of the Clwyd Football League was held at Halkyn on Friday 20th June, various end of season awards were presented (Click here for more details & pictures). Liaison Meeting #2

Joint Liaison meeting between the Welsh Alliance, Clwyd & Gwynedd League's on Tuesday 10th June 2008

Below is an extract from the minutes of the meeting regarding the Clwyd League, it does not look good for Prestatyn Town as Ron Bridges who chaired last nights meeting is also Chairman of the mentioned F A of Wales Domestic Committee.

The Clwyd League stated that they would only allow the Champions or runners up to be consider for promotion and nominated Prestatyn Town Res,
The meeting was informed that as per the F A of Wales guild lines for promotion that under rule 3c that no further reserve teams will be allowed to join a directly affiliated league, as only this season Airbus UK Res had been refused permission for membership to the Welsh National league Premier Division by the F A of Wales Domestic Committee.
The Clwyd League stated that they would not allow Penmaenmawr Phoenix to be considered as they only completed the season in third position.
The meeting accepted the Clwyd League decision.

Llanllyfni were accepted into the Welsh Alliance League having satisfied the leagues ground criteria and as Gwynedd League Champions.

Ty Gobiath

Thank you to all those involved as £230 pounds was raised for the children's charity. On the pitch the Clwyd League side unfortunately lost 7-1 to the Anglesey X1, no reflection on our team, as the players were called up at the last minute, this was due to the fact that the game was called off and then back on following the rescheduling of our Premier Cup final. A big thanks to Geraint Jones & Andy Watton at CPD Sychdyn for helping the league out at such short notice. Hopefully next season's return in Anglesey can be better organised with a full representation of Division One players.

Abergele win Premier Cup on Penalties

Abergele Rovers completed a cup double, five day's after beating Penmaenmawr in the Presidents Cup final, they returned to Halkyn to take the Premier Cup from Aston Park Rangers on penalties. Abergele recovered from a disastrous start, conceding after only 4 minutes, when Neil Boden slotted home for Aston Park, things got worse when keeper Jason Harris spilled a speculative cross from James Guy into his own net. Soon after James Guy had a great opportunity to put his side out of reach, but the Aston Park striker blazed wildly over the bar from a good position.

The match was turned on its head in the space of nine minutes, a fine individual goal from Gele man of the match Kyle Luffman and a superb strike from James Davies, just after the half hour put Abergele on level terms. For Aston Park half time could not come soon enough as Abergele began to dominate and with two minutes left before the break Paul Timpson fired Abergele ahead with a fiercely struck shot from an acute angle.

Aston Park had stepped it up in the second half in search of an equalizer, but found Jason Harris in fine form, atoning for his earlier error by making several fine saves, with James Guy finding himself unlucky to have at least two goalbound shots saved. On the hour Mike Hopkinson finally beat Harris to put Aston Park back on level terms, as both teams tired few chances were created and the match ended all square at 3-3 through full time and extra time on to a penalties finish.

Jason Harris was the Abergele hero saving two penalties, although Tony Emm missed one for Gele, the last penalty for Aston Park was blasted wide.

Promotion Issue

A number of people seem to be confused with the issue regarding promotion from the Clwyd League to the Welsh Alliance League. The notes below are what was agreed at the leagues liaison meeting held earlier in the season, these notes have appeared on this web page since November 2007.

The main points are that only a team finishing in either of the top two positions in the Clwyd Premier Division will be considered for promotion, with the Champions taking preference. If the Champions fail to meet the WAL ground criteria or do not desire promotion, then the runners up would be considered.

The Welsh Alliance rule states that "The League shall consist of a maximum number of 18 teams on the league, and no further reserve teams will be elected to the league". Fearing that they would be left with 14 clubs The Welsh Alliance committee had agreed to approach the Clwyd League for a side outside the top two, but now that Bethesda Athletic will not be promoted, it is unlikely this will be pursued (no such request has yet been received in writing) and as with Rhuddlan Town last season this would have been rejected by the Clwyd League. A team promoted from the Gwynedd League as a non reserve side would take priority.

Current situation - Prestatyn Town reserves will be recommended for promotion as Champions by the Clwyd League at the next liaison meeting before the end of May. After that it is up to the Welsh Alliance League.

Points in favour:- Prestatyn have the ground, finished up as champions and put their application in as per rule. Senior side in WPL - Can appeal to the FAW - Rhyl reserves in the WAL.

Points against:- League rule against accepting reserve sides - Bethesda not getting promoted may have took the last remaining place - WAL will not relegated a non reserve side to take a reserve team. - Member clubs unlikely to be in favour.

LIAISON MEETING - VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

Re: Promotion to the Welsh Alliance League – Season 2008 / 2009.

Following the recent Pyramid Liaison Committee meeting Chaired by the Pentraeth Honda Welsh Alliance Football League and attended by representatives of both the Clwyd and Gwynedd Football Leagues, the following directives were unanimously agreed upon:

1. Any club wishing to be considered for promotion from the Clwyd Premier League into the Welsh Alliance League for next season MUST submit a written application upon request to their General Secretary, Mr Ron Bridges, and this must be received by him either by post or by e-mail by no later than the 31st DECEMBER 2007. Any application received after this date will not be accepted. Mr Bridges can be contacted by telephone 01244 812986 or by post – 9 Rowan Road, Aston Park, Deeside, Flintshire, CH5 1XR. Remember, he must receive a written application – contacting him by phone alone will not be accepted.

2. Clubs who do submit an application will then have their grounds inspected by the Welsh League on or before the 28th FEBRUARY 2008 where you will each receive a written report on what work needs to be done in order to meet their ground criteria (see separate attachment). This work must be completed to their satisfaction on or before the 1st MAY 2008. From experience, those clubs wishing to be promoted must not leave matters until the last minute, waiting to see what your final league position may be – this must be a serious commitment by each club from the outset.

3. Please also remember that consideration will only be given to the clubs finishing either as Champions or Runners-up of the Clwyd Premier League in accordance with the FAW Pyramid Guidelines and Regulations. We have been informed that the Welsh Alliance Football League is looking to promote ONE club from both the Clwyd Premier and Gwynedd Football Leagues at the end of the season subject to criteria and further approval of delegates of each League.

Aston Park Rangers 3rds win Halkyn Cup

Two goals in the first 5 minutes of the game left Mostyn with a mountain to climb, from which the Maes Pennant club never recovered. A long ball from Aston Parks defense put Gary McConnell through on goal and the foot race with Mostyn veteran Keiron Griffiths was never going to be a contest, McConnell finished well to give his side the lead, soon after Anthony Weaver struck from a similar position to double Aston Park's advantage. The game was all but over as a contest 10 minutes before half time, when Ritchie Colclough's looping header found the back of the net.

The match went on to become a scrappy affair until the closing stages, when Aston Park added further goals through James Butler and Mike Murphy. Mostyn's consolation goal was the best of the game, Keiron Roberts cutting in from the right wing before firing a screaming drive from 25 yards out, which flew into the top corner of the Aston Park goal. Little reward for Mostyn Dragons in their first final, but experience for Dave Bell's young side in front of a crowd of nearly 300 spectators.

Saturday in Brief

Connah's Quay Nomads are Division Two champions, following the 6-0 win over Bro Cernyw at the Deeside stadium, the expected goal avalanche did not materialize until nearly an hour into the game as brave Cernyw restricted the champion's elect to a single goal. The relief was evident when Jamie Cross finally doubled the lead and with Nomads now playing with less apprehension James Gambino completed his hat-trick to become the divisions top scorer.

UEFA Regions Cup Update!

After a successful season with the N.W.C.F.A. under 18 side,
winning the RAM Leisure Inter Association Cup for the first time,
Shane Cartwright and Lee Thornton have been selected to guide
a senior team to similar success in the UEFA Regions Cup.
A completion held every two years for amateur players.

North Wales Coast convincingly beat North East Wales by 2 - 0,
as well as controversially having three goals disallowed for off side, at Mold Alexander's Parc Alyn Ground.
With a first half goal by Lee Taylor (Greenfield), followed by a well hit free kick from Johnny Saddler (Caernarfon Wanderers) in the second half putting the tie beyond doubt.
This leaves North Wales Coast needing just a point from their last game to guarantee their route to a final game against
Gwent County F.A. to reach the next qualifying round in Israel this August.

Top Goalscores updated! If anyone thinks they may have their goals missing from the list, please let the website know and we will be happy to update them.

WHY NOT BECOME A REFEREE

The North Wales Coast Football Association hopes to arrange Referee Courses in the New Year. All too often matches at Junior Level go without a qualified Referee in attendance.

The game in North Wales requires new  referees to maintain/ improve its present level of qualified referees.

The benefits of becoming a Referee within North Wales and the whole of Wales has never been better. The opportunity of moving up the Ladder " is attractive, together with mentoring schemes available. Assessments are carried out on a regular basis, with sound advice given by the Assessors. Senior Referees are always available to give advice, encouragement to all new referees. The Referees Officer is also available to give guidance/ advice if required.

The Referees course lasts 6-7 weeks, with a written examination at the end. Each course is under the guidance of a Senior Instructor within your area. Each session will last about 2 hours one night a week If you have any problems during the course you only have to ask your Instructor or the Referees Officer who would be more than willing to help.

The old saying " nothing ventured nothing gained" comes to mind, since in past times the thought of becoming a Referee was not attractive, but you could be refereeing at a high level within a short period of time with the new structure in place within Wales. i.e. either on the League of Wales or even on the UEFA or FIFA list of Assistants or Referees.

We need new Referees of all ages to come into the game, since in recent years the referees who have passed the examination and taken up the game have moved up the pyramid system rapidly and have enjoyed the game from a different prospective than before.

Therefore why not become a qualified Referee by attending a Referees Course in your area. Please contact Mr. Keith Wyn Owen the Referees Officer of the North Wales Coast Football Association at 5, Stad Ty Hen, Waunfawr, Caernarfon, Gwynedd LL55 4PJ or on Telephone number 01286 650691
