MATCH REPORTS

Halkyn Cup Final

A late goal from Keiron Evans secured the win for Aztec Sports, Evans 83rd minute cross shot was deflected in. The cup final was deadlocked at 0-0 and looked to be heading for extra-time, with nothing between both sides, until the late strike.

The medals were presented by NWCFA Hon-Treasurer Mr R.M.Jones.

NWCFA Junior Cup Final Defeat for Rhuddlan Town

Rhuddlan Town's lack of self control proved costly, even with 10 men and the game poised at 1-0 Rhuddlan had a couple of great opportunities to get back into the game, but further dismissals contributed to the Clwyd League side losing tonight's final 4-0. Three players were sent off, Matty Passmore was the first to go as early as the 9th minute, when he received a straight red card for violent conduct. Soon after Beaumaris took the lead.

Following the second Beaumaris goal Chris Morrell received a second yellow card for dissent and John Hargreaves was later dismissed for dangerous play. Jamie Jones in goal had a fine game, pulling off two tremendous saves and his bravery in diving at the feet of in rushing forwards helped keep, the score down.

Beaumaris Town to their credit tried to play football and were rewarded with a well deserved win.

Prestatyn Town - Clwyd Premier League Champions!

Prestatyn Town Reserves finally clinched the Premier Division title, with one game remaining, defeating nearest rivals Llandyrnog United 5-1 at Bastion Gardens.

Aled Roberts volleyed Town ahead in the ninth minute, the midfielder struck fierce shot from the edge of the box, that went in off the right hand upright. Adam Roper increased the lead on 16 minutes, scoring from close range after a defender had misjudged a cross ball.

Gareth John Roberts pulled a goal back for Llandyrnog on 27 minutes, after he was tripped in the box by Prestatyn's Darren MaGuiness. The away side threatened briefly before Adam Roper restored the two goal advantage, the Dyrnog keeper under pressure from Ioan Stephens could only parry the ball across his box, and the ball broke nicely for the striker to smash the ball into the net.

The introduction of top goalscorer Ian Griffiths for the last 25 minutes in the second half produced two more goals, Griffiths tapped in on 75 minutes, after Aled Roberts had won the ball in his own half, only to see his shot saved, but Griffiths was on hand to score. Griffiths initially rested for tomorrow nights NWCFA challenge cup final, headed the fifth goal five minutes from time.

Llandyrnog United finish in second place, but can now look forward to Thursday,s Presidents Cup Final against Rhuddlan Town at Halkyn, where they hope to go one better than last season, when they were beaten finalists.

Saturday 5th May

Prestatyn unlucky to lose in Barritt Cup Final

Prestatyn Town Reserves put up a tremendous fight to pull two goals back, after finding themselves 3-0 down against Welsh Alliance runners up Rhyl Reserves, and might have even snatched an unlikely result from a seemingly impossible position. Top goalscorer Ian Griffiths twice hit the woodwork with headers midway through the second half, as Rhyl survived a second half onslaught, before Prestatyn ran out of steam and the game faded out in the last 15 minutes.

Prestatyn Town Res. notoriously slow starters in matches this season, allowed Rhyl to take control in the early stages, referee Mike Gillham baffled most of the crowd by bringing the play back to award Rhyl a free kick 25 yards out from goal. Rhyl's Mark Roberts struck the free kick well enough to deceive Prestatyn goalkeeper Ben Rowley. Roberts tried his luck with further efforts and Rhyl increased their lead on 30 minutes, when Rowley misjudged the flight of an in swinging corner, defenders Steve Roberts and Rob Jones were caught flat footed and Mike Roose, the smallest player on the pitch headed into an empty net.

Moments later Prestatyn had a lucky escape, when Rob Jones was dispossessed by Ian Dunn, he then squared the ball for Mike Roose, who fired low into the corner, but somehow Ben Rowley produced a wonder save to keep Prestatyn in the game.

Rhyl were awarded a penalty after long ball caught out the Prestatyn defence and Ben Rowley pulled Mike Roose down in the box. Mitchell Booth made no mistake as he dispatched the ball low to the keepers left. Prestatyn looked dead and buried, but were thrown a lifeline, when a well worked move on the stroke of half time resulted in a goal for Martin Laws.

Town started the second half much stronger and were awarded a penalty of their own following a trip on Lucas Brookes. Craig Griffiths stepped up to score, from that moment Prestatyn were transformed, Ian Griffiths and Lucas Brookes up front were beginning to cause Rhyl all sorts of problems, Brookes may have had another penalty, but kept his feet, when he could have gone down, Ian Griffiths crashed a diving header onto the Rhyl post, and following a corner, thundered a header onto the cross bar. Rhyl gradually came back into the match and finished the stronger team.

Rhyl were worthy winners and credit must go to both teams, who played their regular sides despite the temptation to use first team players.

Presidents Cup Quarter Finals

Action from Pengwern College, Rhuddlan Town v Aztec Sports

Rhuddlan Town's first & reserves are both through to the Presidents Cup semi-finals, Andy Thomas heading a second half winner for Rhuddlan Town, who struggled to overcome Aztec Sports, who were for most of the game the much better side. Shane Hayes hit an amazing first half double hat trick at Greenfield, to send Rhuddlan Town Res. into the semi's, where they could possibly be drawn against their first team.

Rhyl Nomads crashed out on penalties at home to Y Glannau, Phil Parry gave Nomads a first half lead before getting himself sent off and Huw Roberts equalised with a penalty on the hour for Y Glannau. The score remained at 1-1 through extra time, although Nomads had another player dismissed before the end. Y Glannau converted all five penalties as the first nine penalties went in, only for Nomads to miss their vital fifth kick.

Gareth John William's late winner at Prestatyn Town, ensured last season's beaten finalists Llandyrnog United Res. a place in the semi-finals.

Greenfield REM Jones Cup Win!

Greenfield are the 2007 REM Jones Cup winners, a repeat of last season's Halkyn Cup final when Greenfield beat Abergele Rovers.

A crowd of 208 at Denbigh Town watched an exciting game in which Greenfield dominated the first half. Owain Roberts opened the scoring for Greenfield on 12 minutes, chipping the advancing keeper after being put through on goal. Abergele captain Tony Emm was lucky to stay on the pitch after tripping Karl Ainsworth, who was through on goal, the resulting free kick from the edge of the box, was smashed against the Abergele post. Karl Ainsworth added a second on the half hour, latching onto a defence splitting pass and cleverly slotting the ball past the exposed keeper, Abergele were hanging on as their square defence were beaten a number of times as their keeper kept them in the game with some fine saves.

After a poor first half Abergele came out fired up and controlled the game without making any clear cut chances, but a keeping error allowed Paul Demilow to score for Abergele, setting up a frantic last 10 minutes. Abergele piled on the pressure and were very unlucky not to get the equaliser, a combination of good goalkeeping and last ditch defending kept Abergele at bay, as Greenfield tired if extra time was forced surly Abergele would go on to win, but much to the relief of Greenfield, referee Harry Guest blew for full time.

Bro Cernyw now face Prestatyn Town Res. at home in the semi-final. Trailing from a Gwyn Jones penalty on 70 minutes, Bro Cernyw rallied with three goals in 5 minutes, Dylan Roberts equalised with a penalty nine minutes from time, then unlucky Nantlle conceded two own goals before having a player dismissed for a second bookable offence.

The semi-final will take place in Llangernyw on Saturday 14th April, Prestatyn Town's Cymru Alliance side have a home fixture with Llandudno Town on this date, which presents Bro Cernyw with a excellent opportunity to progress to their first cup final at senior level.

Premier League

Abergele Rovers completed their league programme with a 4-1 away win at Trefnant Village. Trefnant must win at local rivals Denbigh Town in next weeks crunch game to become runners up, a draw would be enough for Denbigh Town to gain promotion back to the Clwyd Premier League at the first attempt.

Saturday 10th March

All today's fixtures were completed, but most of the games were hampered by strong winds, Rhuddlan Town narrowly won their Premier cup tie against Llansannan and now face a semi-final tie at Flint Town.

In the Premier Division, Halkyn United won their relegation tussle at home to Mochdre Sports with a late goal despite playing the last 20 minutes with only nine men, after 2 players were sent off.

Llandyrnog United and Rhyl Nomads both dropped vital points, Nomads blew a 2-0 goal lead with only 12 minutes remaining, both goals were conceded from identical free kicks.

Strong winds at Cae Nant Llandyrnog made it hard for both teams to play any decent football, but visitors Bro Cernyw were able to plunder their eighth draw of the season,

Trailing by 2 goals after a disastrous first half Prestatyn Town rallied to close in on the top two, Aston Park's Gary McConnell threatened to upset his former club with two goals, but a Craig Griffiths hat-trick won it for the home side.

Greenfield and Abergele Rovers will contest the REM Jones Cup final, after both clubs won their semi-final ties. The Final will be a repeat of last season's Halkyn Cup final, when both sides were in Division Two. Greenfield caused an upset by beating Abergele 1-0 to win the cup, but Division One champions Abergele Rovers will again be strong favourites. The REM Jones Cup final will be played on Thursday 12th April, kick off time 6:30pm, the venue has yet to be decided, but Prestatyn seems the likely option.

Cerrigydrudion became the first club to complete all their fixtures this season, last year they finished on 29th May.

Glan Conwy need only 4 points from their remaining three games to be crowned Division Two champions, their next league fixture on March 24th will be at home to bottom club St Asaph, but they also have to face tough games against Y Glannau and Aztec Sports to follow.

Sychdyn, Rhuddlan Town Res. & Y Glannau all won to stay in the promotion race. Leon Bowen scored a hat-trick for Northop Hall at Sychdyn, but unfortunately still ended up on the losing side and Meirion Edwards late late goal at Aston Park Rangers Res. earned Y Glannau 3 vital points in their quest for promotion.

3rd February 2007

Barritt Cup

Bro Cernyw enjoyed an excellent away win at Welsh Alliance side Rhydymwyn, while Rhuddlan Town were well beaten by a very strong Rhyl side for whom former Bangor City striker Paul Roberts scored 4 times.

Premier Division

The top of the table clash between Llandyrnog United and Rhyl Nomads ended in victory for the league leaders Llandyrnog who stretched their lead to seven points. Rhyl Nomads controversially had Cameron Campbell sent of after 60 minutes and missed a last minute penalty.

Prestatyn Town kept themselves in contention with a 3-0 win at Llansannan, referee Tony Hepton was commended by both sides after having an excellent game.

Rhyl Youth came from behind to win at coronation gardens against Mochdre Sports, Matty Harrison's unluckily deflected the ball into his own goal to give Mochdre the lead, but three second half goals helped Rhyl to an easy win.

Penmeanmawr's game at home to Aston Park Rangers was called off, after the pitch failed an inspection on Friday.

Division One

Mostyn are through to the semi-finals of the REM Jones Cup following a epic tie at Mochdre Sports Res. Mostyn led 2-0 at half-time, but were pegged back as Mochdre went ahead 3-2 in the second half, Lee Jones levelled for Mostyn to take the game into extra-time, where they eventually ran out 5-4 winners.

Abergele Rovers took an important step towards the title, with a vital win a Denbigh Town, Trefnant kept up the pressure also winning at Cerrigydrudion, both teams meet next week at Trefnant.

Division Two

Aztec Sports & Abergele Rovers Res. both won their Halkyn cup quarter finals, while in the league Y Glannau slipped up at home to Sychdyn. A result which saw Sychdyn rise several places to third in the table.

St Asaph could be in trouble with the League after they failed to raise a side for the visit to Glan Conwy.

Saturday January 27th 2007

NWCFA Junior Cup

Prestatyn Town's NWCFA Junior Cup tie ended in chaos, when their match was abandoned after 38 minutes. Leading goalscorer Ian Griffiths had just converted his second penalty of the match to give Prestatyn a 2-1 lead, when it was alleged that players from both sides became abusive and aggressive towards the referee, who had no option other than to abandon the match for his own safety. Prestatyn feel particularly aggrieved as they were forced by the NWCFA to switch the original tie from Bastion Road to Amlwch Town.

Y Glannau's long awaited tie with Barmouth ended in defeat, an own goal on 55 minutes followed by two late goals ruined a good first half performance from the Glan Clwyd side.

Premier Division

Halkyn United recorded their first win of the season at Bro Cernyw, Mark Gunther (2) and Dave Lyth getting the goals in their 3-1 away win. Flint Town Res. gained revenge for their defeat earlier in the season against Aston Park Rangers, Darren Edwards scored twice including a 25 yard volley and also missed a first half penalty. Wayne Edwards headed a second in between his brother's goals.

In the rearranged game at Llandyrnog, a Rhodri Evans penalty on the stroke of half time for Llasannan gave the league leaders some concern, but the lead was short lived as Danny Roberts equalised within 3 minutes of the restart, the home side then went on to win comfortably, maintaining their 4 point lead at the top of the division.

Rhuddlan Town need to start winning, if they hope to mount a late title charge, a late equaliser from player manager Jon Stazicker salvaged a point, after Rhuddlan had fallen two goals behind at Penmaenmawr with 18 minutes left. Penmaenmawr striker Steve Roberts will miss the rest of the season, after a scan at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd revealed a break in his leg. The Clwyd League would like to wish Steve a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in action next season.

Second placed Rhyl Nomads had no such problems, hammering Mochdre Sports 4-1, this sets up next weeks top of the table clash at Llandyrnog, where a win for Nomads would put them a point behind Llandynog with a game in hand.

Division One

Abergele Rovers stretched their lead at the top to 4 points, while Abergele were winning 6-0 at Mochdre, Denbigh Town blew a two goal lead at home, conceding late goals to draw 2-2 with Point of Ayr.

Trefnant Village picked up a hard fought point in a 1-1 draw at Greenfield, both Brynford & Caerwys had good home wins, which will help in their fight against relegation.

Division Two

Glan Conwy got back to winning ways, thrashing Sychdyn 5-1 at Cae Fwt, Rhuddlan Town Res. lost the leadership after slipping to a 3-1 home defeat against Rhos United.

Aztec Sports, Aston Park Rangers & Abergele Rovers all won 2-1 at home, at this stage in the season 7 points separate 1st place Glan Conwy to 8th placed Aston Park Rangers.

Saturday January 6th 2007

Junior Cup

Prestatyn Town won their much delayed Junior Cup match with Llanfairpwll Res., two early first half goals from Nathan Palma and Ian Griffiths ensured a comfortable victory. In the second half John McKeown was unlucky to slice an attempted clearance into his own goal and despite Ian Grifffiths missing a penalty the visitors rarely threatened. Prestatyn now play Y Felinheli next week in the third round.

Flint Town were unlucky to go out in extra time, after completely dominating the tie, missed chances in normal time cost the home side.

Llandyrnog United built up a 3 goal first half lead against Holyhead Hostpurs, but conceded two late goals, Brett Jones and David Davies scored in the first half hour for Llandyrnog, before David Ross Williams saw his shot deflected in off a defender. Kevin Cameron and the experienced Nigel Moore replied for Holyhead.

Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup tie between Caerwys Res. and Rhuddlan Town was called off by Referee Harry Guest due to the pitch being unfit, Caerwys club officials had prepared the pitch at Barlows on Friday, but unfortunately overnight a large flock of sheep had found there way on to the field.

Premier Division

Mochdre Sports gained their first win since August, a Danny Ashe hat-trick featured in the 4-1 win over Halkyn United.

Bro Cernyw and Aston Park fought out a 1-1 draw, the Llangernyw side being denied victory after a late goal was disallowed.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix dropped two valuable points at home to Llansannan, after being 3-1 up at half time the home side failed to capitalise on the lead as Llansannan deservedly fought back to earn a point, with Gareth Evans equalising six minutes from time.

The Rhyl Derby at coronation gardens between Rhyl Nomads and Rhyl Youth also ended in a 1-1 draw, with both sides having not seen any action in the last month due to the weather, it was no surprise that the game was scrappy and was a poor match to watch, although Rhyl Youth could have snatched a winner in the last minute when they hit the underside of the bar.

Division One

The shock result of the day was at Brynford where leaders Abergele Rovers lost 2-1, with Brynford's top marksman Dean Rigby getting both the goals.

Denbigh Town maintained their promotion push with a narrow 1-0 win over Mochdre Sports Res. while Cerrigydrudion's goalscoring form returned as they beat Mostyn 5-3.

Division Two

Abergele Rovers Res. faired better than their first team by hitting seven past struggling St Asaph, Leon Field and Thomas Galvin were amongst the Gele goalscorers.

Sychdyn missed the chance to go second after blowing a two goal lead at Aston Park Rangers, a spectacular collapse in the last half hour saw the visitors concede four goals, Aston Park eventually running out 5-2 winners.

Controversy surrounded the fixture between Rhuddlan Town Res. and Glan Conwy, with Rhuddan's first team match at Caerwys being called off earlier in the day, first team managers James Ainsworth & Jon Staziker felt that the team needed a run out because of the recent breaks in the fixtures, and with an important Junior Cup match next Saturday the result was that almost the entire first team played against the second division league leaders.

Glan Conwy put up a good fight in the first half restricting the home side to just a single goal, but a the match wore on Rhuddan Town were much stronger ending up 5-0 winners. First team strikers Andy Booker (4) and Andy Thomas scoring the goals. This result throws the league wide open again with at least seven teams still in with a chance.

Aztecs Sports home match with Northop Hall was called off due to the non appearance of the appointed match official, the league will be investigating the matter at the next executive meeting.

Clwyd League Div 2

Caerwys Res 1 Trefnant 3

Caerwys lacked fire-power in front of goal and gave possession away cheaply and that was the difference between the two sides. There was very little in it after a blank first half with few opportunities. Mike Poole going close for Caerwys with a blistering shot which went narrowly over but they should have had a penalty when Sam Jones was tripped but somehow the ref missed it. Trefnant squandered two good chances at the other end but they took the lead soon after the break. A second goal gifted by a poor clearance dampened Caerwys spirits but sub Chris Williams reduced the arrears with 10 mins left, however Trefnant scored a killer third 2 mins from time.

Saturday 18th November 2006

Premier

All Today's fixtures were completed and included some high scoring games, Martin Jones of Rhuddlan Town is the new leading scorer in the Premier Division, after scoring Six of his goals in Rhuddlan's 8-2 away win at Halkyn, incredibly Jones scored five of his goals before half time.

Martin Jones leads Prestatyn's Ian Griffiths by 1 goal, although Griffiths scored both of Prestatyn's goals in the Pentraeth Honda Barritt Cup win over Bethel, the goals do not count as it is not a Clwyd league competition. Prestatyn achieved their despite playing half the match with ten men. Mark Hughes was red carded in the 43rd minute, but Griffiths struck twice in a minute midway through the second half.

Llansannan blew a 3 goal advantage at home to title contenders Llandyrnog United Res., the Home side raced 3-0 ahead within half an hour, but a David Ross Williams goal just before half time gave the visitors hope. The second half was all one way traffic as Llandyrnog hammered in three more goals to secure a win that moves them up into third place.

There were comfortable wins for Aston Park Rangers and Rhyl Nomads, while Flint Town came from two goals behind to force a draw at Rhyl Youth.

Division One

Abergele Rovers were surprisingly held at home to Mochdre Sports Reserves, but still regained top position as nearest rivals Trefnant lost at Point of Ayr.

Denbigh Town Res. & Mostyn kept up the pressure on the top two with big wins, Denbigh hit eight at Cerrigydrudion, a James Koval hat trick featured in this game and Mostyn had six different scorers in their 9-2 win over local rivals Brynford.

Caerwys Res. were well beaten at home to much improved Greenfield.

Division Two

Aztec Sports move up into second place after a hard fought win over Rhos United, but Glan Conwy maintained their grip on first place with a crushing 9-0 win at struggling St Asaph, Steve Taylor scoring four times for the away side.

Northop Hall dropped more points as they were held at Wepre Rangers and Y Glannau never recovered after falling two goals behind against Abergele Rovers Res. The home side replied through a Chris Evans goal, but the striker could not repeat his recent good form.

Rhuddlan Town Res. move up to fifth after an easy 3-0 home win over promotion chasing Sychdyn.

Saturday 4th November 2006

Premier Cup

Ian Griffiths scored yet another hat-trick as Prestatyn Town Res. overcame Llandyrnog United Res. in the Premier Cup first round, Griffiths had given Town a 2-0 lead, but Gareth John Williams pulled a goal back for Llandyrnog just before the break.

Llandyrnog pushed further forward in the second half searching for the equaliser and almost scored when a speculative cross came back off the cross bar, by now Town were defending and restricted to counter attacks. Ten minutes from time Griffiths exploited the space left at the back to complete his hat-trick, but Prestatyn had an anxious last few minutes, when Gareth John scored his second.

Justin Jones (3) heads away for Prestatyn - click image for larger picture

Due to the NWCFA Junior Cup only two league fixtures took place, between sides knocked out in the previous round, both fixtures were in Division Two.

Division Two

Rhuddlan Town Res. took on Abergele Rovers Res. at the Admirals Fields, both teams fielded very youthful sides, Matty Pardoe gave Rhuddlan the lead on 22 minutes, but Abergele gradually took over towards the end of the half and created a number of chances before Thomas Galvin latched onto a through ball and fired low under the keeper. Rhuddlan restored their lead 15 minutes from time through Damian Foxbyrne and hung on for a valuable three points.

Ryan Woods clears for Abergele - click image for larger picture

Glan Conwy Res. take over top position from Y Glannau, after their hard fought win over promotion rivals Sychdyn, a goal in each half from Steve Taylor earned the Vale of Conwy side the win, but Sychdyn were unlucky to be denied a first half penalty claim for a blatant hand ball.

The Situation at the top of Division Two is becoming increasingly tight, as up to Six teams are involved in the championship race, and a number of teams below have proved that they are more than capable of taking points off the leaders.

NWCFA Junior Cup

Thirteen Clwyd League sides are definitely through to the next round on a day when our clubs from the 1st & 2nd Divisions had more success than our Premier Division sides.

Two results that were the pick of the day were:-

Mostyn's win at holders Caernarfon Boro, despite Sean Williams missing a first half penalty Mostyn showed great character in the second half and deservedly led through goals by Mike Prydderch and Gareth Roberts, after surviving an own goal and a few over the top challenges from their desperate opponents, Dave Jones sealed a memorable victory two minutes from time.

The shock win for Y Glannau at Rhyl Nomads, the Division Two leaders win was even more remarkable due to the fact that they had to overcome a two goal deficete and Rhyl Nomads also squandered two penalties. After going 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes, Y Glannau showed great fighting spirit to comeback to win this enthralling Junior Cup match. A hat-trick by Deiniol Jones and a single from Meirion Edwards sent Y Glannau through to the next round. Even though, Y Glannau survived two penalty misses, they showed great resilience to hang on at the end. (Thanks to dilagann for the report).

Other very good results:-

Greenfield's 5-1 win at Llansannan, and Halkyn's 2-0 win over Llanllyfni from the Gwynedd Leaguer. Cerrigydrudion's 5-3 win over Pwllheli Res. Cerrig playing some excellent football were leading 4-0 before their opponents resorted to trying to kick them off the park, this worked for a while as Pwllheli pulled two goals back, but Sior Williams added a killer 5th goal for Cerrig nine minutes from time, after opening the scoring with an own goal John Glyn ended the scoring for Pwllheli with the last kick of the game.

Rhos United's 3-1 home win against Rhiwlas, who knocked out Sychdyn in the pervious round, Abergele Rovers had a comfortable 4-0 win over Trefor from the Caernarfon area, Aztec Sports conceded an early goal in their match against Llangoed from Ynys Mon, but ran out 4-1 winners, helped by two goals from Callum Cardno.

The all Premier Division tie between Mochdre Sports & Aston Park Rangers went to extra time with the home side winning 4-3. In the all Division One tie Point of Ayr won at Caerwys Res. after losing there in the cup earlier this season.

The visitors dominated the first half against a disjointed Caerwys team who lacked basic team organisation. Andy Peters managed to pull it back to 1-3 by half time. Caerwys improved in the second half and Mike Poole pulled another back but his team failed to capitalise on a number of good goal scoring opportunities and Point pinched a killer fourth to see them through. (Thanks to Caerwysfc for this report).

Mynydd Llandygai 1 Flint Town Res. 4. A professional away performance by Flint, who led 4-0 before conceding a late goal, after two recent defeats this win should lift Eddie Barry's teams confidence for next weeks trip to Glan Conwy in the Barritt Cup.

Machno United from the Caernarfon League arrived at Pengwern College Rhuddlan very much the underdogs, with a young looking side nothing like the Machno sides of old, that could strike fear into opponents even before a ball was kicked. The opening half suggested nothing less than a convincing home win, with Rhuddlan Town totally dominating the match and unlucky to be leading only 4-1, a Martin Jones hat-trick and a John Hargreaves penalty had the home side much in control, Hargreaves had what seemed to be a perfectly good goal ruled out, when his shot rebounded of the cross bar and appeared to cross the line before being cleared by a defender.

Despite containing a wealth of experienced players Rhuddlan took the field in body but not in sprit allowing Machno to plunder three second half goals and bizarrely sending the match into extra time, fortunately for Rhuddlan there was no further scoring, but the worry was that regular keeper Jamie Jones was missing, and they had to rely on an untried keeper for the penalty shoot out.

Rhuddlan had their boots on for the penalties converting all four taken, Machno scored two of theirs, but hit the same post twice with the other two.

Rhuddlan had a lucky escape in the end and now face another great former Vale of Conwy side Blaenau Ffestiniog at Cae Clyd.

Left - John Hargreaves scores his penalty for Rhuddlan. Right - Hargreaves shot that was controversally judged to have not crossed the line. - click images for larger pictures.

There were some major disappointments as Bro Cernyw went down with little resistance at home to Llanystumdwy, Premier title hopefuls Penmaenmawr Phoenix lost at local rivals Llandudno Junction Res. thanks to two late goals, but did not deserve to get anything out of the game.

Trefnant comprehensively beaten at Amlwch, Denbigh Town very unlucky to lose on penalties at Beaumaris Town, Northop Hall put up a very good fight losing by the odd goal to Llanfairfechan Town.

Some expected defeats were at Brynford for whom Martin Farmer scored an amazing 45 yard screamer against Blaenau Ffestiniog, St Asaph at Bethel and most obviously Aston Park Rangers Reserves, who made the long trip to Meirionydd to play Barmouth & Dyffryn United, who are two leagues higher, unbeaten and top of the Gwynedd League.

Rhyl Youth's match at Holyhead Gwelfor was abandoned with Holyhead leading 2-0, when match official O.S.Owen was hit in the face by the ball and could not continue to ref the game.

Wepre Rangers failed to phoned their result into the NWCFA competitions secretary and could face disciplinary action.

Presidents Cup Round 2

Eleven of the sixteen ties were played, with the remaining games being played out over the next two weeks, The featured ties of the round was at Bastion Road where Prestatyn Town entertained Abergele Rovers.

Abergele started the game missing five regulars notably Paul Walker in goal, midfielder Allan Jones and striker Paul Demilow, but had the experience of captain Tony Emm and Jem Steel in the back four to add support to the youthful looking side.

Prestatyn Town were at full strength and had the luxury of having players such as Justin Jones and Darren Hughes on the bench.

Prestatyn took the lead on 22 minutes when Nathan Palma hammered a loose ball home after it was deflected into his path, up until then the game had been fairly even with few chances for both sides, Abergele's best effort came early in the game when Callun Hardy struck the angle of bar & post from 25 yards out. Mike Taylor in the Abergele goal was forced into a couple of good saves from Ian Griffiths.

The second half was only 10 minutes old when Prestatyn were awarded a penalty for a trip on Nathan Palma, Ian Griffiths well struck was well saved by Taylor as he dived to his right, but unfortunately for the Abergele keeper the ball ricochet off him back across his goal, to leave Griffiths with a simple tap in.

Abergele player manager Leon Field pulled a goal back 8 minutes from time after coming on as sub, but any thoughts of a comeback were diminished when Prestatyn sub Darren Hughes restored the two goal advantage 2 minutes later.

Mochdre Sports Reserves had a comfortable 4-1 win at Abergele Rovers Reserves, Aston Park Rangers were surprisingly beaten at home by First Division Greenfield for whom John Shepherd scored twice.

Aztec Sports provided the biggest upset of the day, the Division Two side playing against their high flying Premier division opponents Rhyl Youth. Callum Cardno 2 & Jamie Allen getting Aztec's goals, who were well worth their win, the Rhyl based Aztec side defeating their local rivals 3-0.

A last minute winner from Terry Jones saw Caerwys through 4-3 at home to Point of Ayr, Bradley Foulkes scored twice in a minute to take Point close, but was sent off late in the second half.

Cerrigydrudion crushed St Asaph form Division Two 6-1 at home, Ryan Jones scoring twice for the home side, Denbigh Town playing at home for the first time in a number of weeks were obviously not used to their own pitch, losing 2-0 against Sychdyn, for whom Ben Morgan and Richard Hughes scored, it could have been worse for Denbigh as Richard Hughes also missed a penalty in the last minute.

Penmaenmawr were too strong for Mostyn winning 3-0 away at Maes Pennant, Y Glannau won on penalties away at second division title rivals Northop Hall, after the sides were deadlocked at 1-1 after extra time.

Two sides from Division Two gave their Premier Division opponents a tougher game as they would get all season, Rhos United went close against Rhuddlan Town, as Rhuddlan hung on in the last 10 minutes to win 4-3. Wepre Rangers went even closer taking Llansannan to extra time, the second division side led 2-0 after 20 minutes, but just before half time Arfon Davies pulled a goal back for Llansannan. A shock seemed to be on the cards when Gary Trebble restored Wepre's two goal advantage near the hour mark, but two late goals rescued Llansannan and forced extra time.

Nine minutes into the second period of extra time Llansannan were awarded a penalty, Rhodri Evans Llansannan's Captain and most experienced player took the responsibility to score from the spot kick.

Premier Division

In the Premier Division the top game of the day was at Coronation Gardens where Rhyl Nomads took on Flint Town, Nomads came out on top 3-2 winners in a great game of football, but had to hang on after Flint centre half Mike Davies pulled a goal back 20 minutes from time, from then on it was backs to the wall defending for the Nomads, who were relieved when Flint's Lee Blythin squandered a great chance from 2 yards out with an open goal at his mercy. Flint Town's Mike Davies was credited with the man of the match in a game in which both sides were a credit to their League.

Rhyl Nomads remain top of the Premier League, but face a number of testing games in the coming weeks, next Saturday they are away at in their Presidents Cup tie Trefnant Village, who current lead Division One, this match is likely to be featured on this website. Premier Division

Bro Cernyw and Prestatyn Town shared 10 goals in an amazing game at Llangernyw. Prestatyn Town were leading 4-1, 15 minutes into the second half, but as Bro Cernyw tried thier luck from distance, long range efforts from Jamie Williams & Gwion Schiavone put Bro Cernyw back in contention, Schiavone scored his 2nd to equalise on 63 minutes and incredibly Jamie Williams scored his 2nd of the game to give the home side the lead 10 minutes from time.

A shell-shocked Prestatyn threw everything at Bro Cernyw and were saved when Mark Hughes levelled 5 minutes from time, three outstanding saves from the home keeper in the dying minutes denied Prestatyn Town a win, which would have taken them top.

A hat-trick from Rhyl Nomads captain Phil Goodwin helped his team to a comfortable win at Halkyn United Res.

The top of the table clash between Llandyrnog United & Rhyl Youth went ahead despite the appointed referee withdrawing hours before the kick-off, both sides agreed to an emergency official from Llandyrnog. Unfortunately the game ended in controversy, when Rhyl seemed to be denied a blatant penalty by the stand in referee. Llandyrnog United edged Rhyl Youth out by the odd goal, Russell Moorcroft's first half strike proved to be enough.

Despite a late kick-off Llansannan got back to winning way's with a 3-2 home win over Aston Park Rangers, who were delayed for nearly 40 minutes on the A55 due to road works.

Flint Town's win at Mochdre Sports take's them top, but they had a late scare when Mochdre's Lee Martin equalised John Crossley's opener 20 minutes from time, fortunately for Flint, corner kick specialist Lee Blythin was on hand to score direct from the flag kick, the third time he has achieved this in recent weeks.

After recent league home defeats Rhuddlan Town were in President's Cup action at home to a youthful Aston Park Rangers Reserves from Division Two, fielding a full strength side, it was no surprise when Rhuddlan raced to a 3 goal lead within half an hour, further goals were added in the second half, which featured a Martin Jones hat-trick, but the best goal of the game came from Aston Park, who to their credit never gave up, Scott Glen's brilliant header left Jamie Jones with no chance, but almost immediately Rhuddlan were up the other end, Jamie Foxbyrne adding his 2nd and Town's seventh of the game.

Rhuddlan Town now face Rhos United another Division Two side away in the Presidents Cup second round.

Y Glannau, who are currently experiencing problems with their Glan Clwyd pitch, had to switch the home venue to Coronation gardens in Rhyl, which fortunately was vacant for this Saturday only, after an unsuccessful attempt was made to play at Admirals field in Rhuddlan.

However playing at their previous home ground inspired Y Glannau to their best performance of the season, former Rhos United player Medwyn Lewis opened the scoring after just 4 minutes, top scorer Meirion Edwards added two more, and Dewi Roberts completed a satisfactory win for the home side.

St Asaph won for the first time, in a game that was delayed due to referee Gordon Boyd falling victim of the roadwork's & traffic jams on the A55. The 4-3 scoreline suggested a closer game than it really was, Rhos United badly under achieved and never recovered from going 2-0 down early in the match.

Five goals in the opening 10 minutes at Wepre Park contributed to a high scoring game, in which Sychdyn emerged as victors by the odd goal. Wepre Rangers Gary Trebble scored a hat-trick, but still ended up on the losing side.

Rhyl Nomads inflicted a first defeat of the season on local rivals Rhuddlan Town, despite playing most of the game with ten men, after having a player sent off in the first half.

Phil Goodwin gave Nomads the lead after a bad back pass form Rhuddlan captain Jon Staziker led to a mix up, with the ball finding its way to Goodwin who chipped into an unguarded net.

Rhuddlan Town equalised four minutes later when Nomads were reduced to ten men, an off the ball incident inside the penalty box involving Rhuddlan's Matty Passmore resulted in Nomads player being red carded and a penalty kick awarded by Referee Simon Newport, with Gareth Walsh sending Dave Rowlands the wrong way with the spot kick.

Surprisingly Rhyl Nomads were the better side and created a number of chances after the break, it was only a matter of time before Shane Bucknell scored with a low drive.

Rhuddlan were back on level terms when Sean Morgan put away a loose ball after Rowlands had failed to hold a free kick, but within two minutes Rob Hastie smashed a thunderous shot past Jason Jones in the Rhuddlan goal, two more late goals from Bucknell and Lee Martin made the game safe for Nomads.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix finally ended their goal drought, but it was still not enough as Prestatyn Town cruised to a 3-0 first half lead, Ian Griffiths (2) and Lucas Brookes were on target for Town, Pen staged a second half revival, John Crowl immediately after the restart and Carl Rowlands 20 minutes from time, but Prestatyn hung on for their second win of the season.

Two headed goals from Rhodri Williams gave Llansannan a second successive win, moving the Bro Aled side up into fourth place, as Mochdre Sports failed to hit the target yet again.

Another side struggling to score are Penmaenmawr Phoenix who lost 1-0 at home to Rhyl Youth for whom Josh Parry plundered a 77th minute winner.

RHYDYMWYN RES 1 TREFNANT 0

Sat 22nd April 2006

Rhydymwyn secured promotion to the Premier Division after only 3 seasons in the Clwyd League. They beat Trefnant by a single 67th minute goal from Luca Trassatti in a game they dominated but were never able to put the result beyond doubt by some tremendous defending from the visiting side. Trassatti was denied in the 12th minute when his volley from Ian Price's long throw hit one of his own team mates. On the half hour a Tom Evans 25 yard free kick cannoned off the corner of the cross bar. Adrian Parry created a number of openings on the right hand flank and Stuart Griffiths in theTrefnant goal did well to deny the Rhydymwyn attack.

The Rhydymwyn midfield dominated most of the game with Jamie Higgins putting in a man of the match performance. For Trefnant David Clayton was outstanding with Dean Jones doing much of the ball winning.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Stuart Griffiths pulling off a superb tip over save to deny a strike from Ben Jones. In contrast Adam Davies had little to do in the Rhydymwyn goal with Andy Lowrie controlling a creative back line with Shaun Edwards looking to link up with the midfield.

A good day for Rhydymwyn in a game well refereed by Nic Pratt.

Paul Demilow opened the scoring for Abergele on 17 minutes, Gary Field increased the lead 3 minutes after half time and Chris Campbell looked to have made the game safe on 53 minutes.

Flint Town Res. twice came from behind to win at Conwy United Res. Matt Knight scoring twice for Flint, his first on 25 minutes, equalising Andy Spencer's 18 minute opening goal, Spencer put Conwy ahead soon after the break, but Chris Williams (56 mins.) pulled Flint level, Knight score his second and the winner for Flint 20 minutes from time.

Aston Park Rangers Res. were unlucky to lose at home to Trefor, Daniel Mapp-Jones scoring probably the quickest goal of the day, when he netted after only 30 seconds!, but unfortunately for Aston Park goals from Ian Williams and Meic Williams won the match for Trefor.

Rhydymwyn Res. went down 1-0 at Caernarfon Borough, Phil Jones (12mins.) scoring for the home side.

NWCFA Junior Cup Round 2 - Rhydymwyn Res. 4 Penrhynduedraeth 0

Rhydymwyn Reserves progressed to the third round of the North Wales Coast Junior Cup after a convincing home win over Penrhyndeudraeth.

After 7 minutes Rhydymwyn won a free kick wide on the left hand side. Tom Evans curled his kick to the far post deceiving keeper Geraint Hughes who could only watch as the ball hit the back of the net. Minutes later Jamie Higgins was unlucky to see his long lob hit the foot of the post with the keeper stranded. However Higgins made no mistake in the 17th minute when he beat Gwyn Roberts to a through ball and his low shot from the edge of the penalty area found the corner of the net. Penrhyndeudreath found it hard to live with the pace of Rhydymwyn's close inter passing and they were rocked again in the 20th minute. Some good play on the right hand side by Jamie Banks who slid the ball inside to Alex Parry who cut inside and left two defenders stranded and hit a crisp shot from 20 yards leaving the unfortunate Penrhyn keeper helpless. Rhydymwyn's midfield continued to dominate the remainder of the half with Ben Jones spreading the play to the flanks.

Iwan Roberts and Jason Firth tried to bring Penrhyn back into the game in the second half but any hopes of a come back were killed off in the 52nd minute. Good build up play from midfield and neat interpassing between Alex Parry and Jamie Higgins put Parry through to round the keeper to score his second and the Rhyd Nerrazurri's fourth. An excellent performance with Adrian Parry getting the man of the match for his tireless and powerful running in midfield.

Pentraeth Honda Barritt Cup Round 2

Aston Park Rangers lost 3-1 at home to Llanrug United, Gwion Schiavone scored twice for Bro Cernyw who were unlucky to lose 4-2 to Porthmadog, Mochdre Sports beat Division 1 side Llandyrnog United Res. 2-1 Lee Martin (18) and Darren Maxwell (87) for Mochdre, Ian Jones (48) for Llandyrnog.

Premier Cup Final (at Holywell Town)

Thursday May 26th 2005

Rhyl Youth 1 Aston Park Rangers 3

Ian Swindells sealed the win for Aston Park with a trademark header 5 minutes from time, Swindells bullet header left the Rhyl goalkeeper clutching thin air as it flew into the top corner.

Aston Park got off to the perfect start, taking the lead with barely a minute on the clock, Danny Connor punishing a hesitant Rhyl defence, by pouncing on a loose ball inside the 6 yard box.

After 12 minutes of play Rhyl thought they had equalised, when they had the ball in the net direct from a free kick, but Referee Harry Guest had clearly signalled a indirect free kick, and the goal was ruled out.

In the second half Gary Reed increased the lead for Aston Park, forcing the ball over the line, after his initial stooping header was saved.

Rhyl were thrown a lifeline 7 minutes from time, when the were awarded a penalty, and Ricky Grayson kept his cool slotting the kick low to the keepers left.

Any thoughts of a revival were crushed 2 minutes later, when Swindells ensure the cup win for Aston Park Rangers, with his header.

Holywell Town Reserves 1 ABS Sports 4

ABS Sports finally clinched the Premier Division title, with a comfortable 4-1 away win at Holywell Town.

Holywell found themselves under the cosh from the start, as Allan Jones fired wide early on from a good goalscoring position, and Simon Wallis failed to capitalise when his first touch let him down, after the ABS striker had the ball at his feet inside the penalty box.

Sean Morgan made the break through on 18 minutes, with a fiercely struck shot from the edge of the box, Wallis had time to squander another opportunity, before he was lucky to receive only a yellow card for a bad challenge.

The game was virtually over as a contest, and the title assured 15 minutes before half time, when Dean Billingsley picked the ball up on the left wing, and cutting inside curled the ball into the top right hand corner of the Holywell net, 3 minutes later Mike Roose created a simple tap in for Simon Wallis, as ABS threatened to run riot.

Half-time 0-3

The second half was a more even affair, with Holywell's man of the match Paul Davies going close with a header.

With the game heading towards its closing stages, and becoming scrappy, the match suddenly exploded into life again, when ABS defender Dave Whittaker won the ball in his own half, and then set of on a powerful run, brushing off two Holywell defenders before exploding a tremendous shot into the roof of the net.

Shortly after a mix up between Whittaker, and Paul Walker allowed in Shane Francis for a Holywell consolation goal.

Shotton Town 3 Rhydymwyn Res. 3

Rhydymwyn res took the lead after 10 mins from a goal scored by Danny
Williams, who is a first team player and also an ex Wrexham player.

Shotton Town Pulled it level 20 mins later with an over head kick volley by
Gary Harkin.

On the half both teams went off level.

Rhydymwyn was feeling the strain a bit and made a change bring another
first team player on, this now meant there was 4 first team players on the
pitch
for Rhydymwyn.

Shotton to their credit competed well and with two spectacular goals from
Paul Harkin Shotton went 3-1 up.

Rhydymwyn now looked dead and buried but one last throw of the dice the made
a double substitution and brought another 2 first team players on, this now
meant Rhydymwyn was now fielding half of their first team.

Shotton was forced into making two substitution due to injury and brought
players on who have played in the Mckenzie league all season but were not to the
same class / standard to Rhydymwyn and this showed in the final few minutes
of the game when Rhydymwyn scored twice to force a draw. Dean Hughes ( 1st
team player) scoring the equaliser in the last 4 minutes.

Ian Billingsley put Castle ahead after only 4 minutes with a scorching volley from 25 yards out, Rhuddlan Town never really got going after the early set back, and poor defending allowed Shane Bucknell, who despite a lack of height easily won the header between Craig Maddock, and Simon Mills, which looped over the stranded Rhuddlan Town keeper.

Bucknell fired Castle further in front 8 minutes before half time, finishing off a Mike Waters cross from the right wing.In the second half Rhuddlan Town staged a mini revival, Two well taken goals from Andy Booker closed the gap to 3-2, but almost immediately Castle won a penalty, which Ioan Stephens converted.

Rhuddlan Town 3 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0

Saturday 5th March 2005

Rhuddlan Town progressed to the Barritt Cup semi-finals with an excellent home win over Welsh Alliance League Penmaenmawr.

Rhuddlan scored from their first real attack after only 4 minutes, when top goal scorer John Evans picked the ball up from just inside Penmaenmawr's half, Evan's then used his pace to run at the defenders, and cutting in from the right hit a fine shot past the keeper.

Rhuddlan had chances to increase the lead, when Danny Mills headed a corner kick down to the feet of Craig Maddock, who's shot was turned round the post by the Pen keeper, and from the resulting corner Danny Mills again with a free header forced the Penmaenmawr keeper into yet another good save.

At the other end Rhuddlan had a narrow escape when Paul Jackson misjudged a free kick floated into his box, Mike Jones clearing the ball of the line for a corner.Andy Booker set off on a powerful run down the left, and reaching the by-line crossed for Mike Jones, who looked certain to score only to see his effort blocked by a last ditch tackle.

Jackson in goal for Rhuddlan saved well just before half-time. The second half was barely a minute old when Rhuddlan Captain James Pownell made it 2-0 following a goalmouth scramble.

The injured Simon Mills was replaced by Dale Morris for Rhuddlan, and Penmaenmawr pushed for a goal to get themselves back into the game, but all too often Peter Williams found himself surrounded by too many defenders when he had the ball.

Rhuddlan sat back content to relay on the counter attack, with Evans, and Bookers pace up front, on 72 minutes John Evans sprung the offside trap, and then calmly rounded the keeper to wrap the tie up for Rhuddlan. In the last 15 minutes Peter Williams for Penmaenmawr forced Jackson into a good saved, Mike Jones then had a goal disallowed for offside for Rhuddlan, and in the dying seconds Evans, and Andy Booker both squandered goalscoring opportunities.
