A crowd of 208 at Denbigh Town watched an exciting
game in which Greenfield dominated the first half. Owain Roberts
opened the scoring for Greenfield on 12 minutes, chipping the
advancing keeper after being put through on goal. Abergele captain
Tony Emm was lucky to stay on the pitch after tripping Karl Ainsworth,
who was through on goal, the resulting free kick from the edge
of the box, was smashed against the Abergele post. Karl Ainsworth
added a second on the half hour, latching onto a defence splitting
pass and cleverly slotting the ball past the exposed keeper, Abergele
were hanging on as their square defence were beaten a number of
times as their keeper kept them in the game with some fine saves.
After a poor first half Abergele came out fired
up and controlled the game without making any clear cut chances,
but a keeping error allowed Paul Demilow to score for Abergele,
setting up a frantic last 10 minutes. Abergele piled on the pressure
and were very unlucky not to get the equaliser, a combination
of good goalkeeping and last ditch defending kept Abergele at
bay, as Greenfield tired if extra time was forced surly Abergele
would go on to win, but much to the relief of Greenfield, referee
Harry Guest blew for full time.
